Description

Savor the rich layers of chocolate and delightful coconut-pecan frosting in this classic German Chocolate Cake. Perfect for celebrations or a sweet treat, it’s a nostalgic dessert that brings joy with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups sweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 3 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and dust two 9-inch round cake pans with cocoa powder.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes). Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  4. Gradually add buttermilk alternating with dry ingredients until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  6. For frosting, combine butter, powdered sugar, egg yolks, milk, coconut flakes, and pecans over medium heat until bubbly. Frost cooled layers generously.
