Description

Savory French Onion Potato Bake combines layers of crispy potatoes and sweet caramelized onions, all enveloped in creamy Gruyère cheese. This comforting dish is perfect for cozy evenings or gatherings, delivering rich flavors and a delightful aroma that will make it a family favorite.

  • 4 medium Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 large sweet onions (Vidalia or Walla Walla), sliced
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté sweet onions for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, salt, pepper, and fresh thyme.
  4. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potato slices, followed by half of the caramelized onions and half of the cheese mixture. Repeat layers.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
